About

The title of this contribution to the online community is a bit of an oxymoron. When we think of things pertaining to antiquity, most people generally think of their oldest relative, an aging car driving down the highway, or the old, rusty remnants of someone’s life. While my oldest relative might not interest me in the context of collecting and selling antiques, that aging car and decrepit pile of “garbage” are treasures in the eyes of the people who delve deep into the world of antiques and collectibles.

That’s a far cry from the “youthful” portion of the title. They’re polar opposites to one another, but I fit the description perfectly. As a young boy, my mother was a full-time antique dealer, antique mall booth owner, flea market buyer and seller, and rummage expert, a business that not only paid my way through the higher education system… but has been a tremendous help in keeping my head above the water of the economic flood.

I’m not some sort of scholarly academic who has studied the history of our country for decades and acquired knowledge along the way about items that have been a part of our evolving country. No, I’m a youthful mid-to-late 20′s average guy who happens to have over a decade of experience selling vintage and antique collectibles to people who will truly appreciate them while finding my own infatuations along the way.

Yeah, that’s right. I have quite a bit of experience being that weird, young guy at the local auction who delves deep into the female-dominated world of costume jewelry, meticulously scours over vintage cameras, and huffs in frustration about forgetting exactly what pattern of depression glass he’s actually looking at.

The hope of this blog is to fill a void. Antiques and collectibles hunters are mostly an older crowd of folk who aren’t as Internet savvy as I’d love them to be. Sure, they can navigate their way around EBay and sell their items for profit, but the social networking aspect of this great hobby is something I crave. Not only for the interactions with the great people who are in love with collecting, but for the helpful tips, tricks of the trade, and knowledge as a hive mind we can all bring to the table. Let’s have some fun.
