The Beginning of Something Personal…

Long Journey Ahead

It's going to be a long, intriguing journey

This should be an interesting journey to say the least. For a little more background than I’m probably going to give you here, check out the About page for some more information on exactly what I hope to accomplish and a little bit about my background in the wonderful world of antiques & collectibles.

This blog will serve multiple purposes for me. I’ve found the Internet, from a very young age, to be a great place to meet people who have the same interests as you, but maybe you’re just not surrounded with those same people in your life. Of all of my friends, I’m the only one who actively collects, sells, buys, and enjoys antiques and collectibles, and that probably has a lot to do with my upbringing as an apprentice in the world of collecting underneath my parents.

I’m only in my mid-to-late 20′s, and that’s somewhat of a rarity in this hobby unless you’re interested in art or history. I love history, and art looks great on my walls… but I’m just your average guy, although I’m quite geeky by profession.

Just like your average college guy turned thriving professional out of college, I enjoy the finer things in life that the Midwest offers. Baseball, a good beer, some raucous yelling at the television, outrageously funny comedies, and enjoying the company of friends at a watering hole on a Friday or Saturday night.

I also happen to be very analytical in my thought processes as I do work in the field of Information Technology. I dabble in statistics, meticulously scrutinize my bank account, have trouble sleeping due to excessive thinking, and frustrate myself to no end at auctions as to whether I can make a dollar on something or not.

Unlike many of my friends, I walk out onto the battlefield of little old ladies, long-bearded, camouflage-jacketed men, and completely clueless ringers at auctions on the weekends. A complete flip of reality from the dull, gray walls of the cubicles I occupy during the week. But the intrigue is hard to ignore. The addiction of the hunt is tough to crack. And the rewards and happiness that can be brought from finding the perfect piece of home decor that would liven up your life or that one item you bought for next to nothing that just boosted your weekly sales astronomically are thrilling to experience.

Hopefully, there are others out there that share these personal experiences… I’m sure there are as I think the hunt is one of the biggest reasons I see so many of the same people at the auctions I attend. This blog will hopefully expand one day into a fledgling community of people wanting to share those stories along with their knowledge.

This is somewhere in which I can write about something I personally enjoy in my off time. While I love my job and love my side job as a sports writer, sometimes there is a need to disconnect from those worlds that our eyes are in front of constantly and focus on something that we enjoy outside of our usual routine. I hope this will provide that outlet.

One final note before we take off… I’m no maven of the antique and collectibles world. If something I say is completely wrong, drop me an email or comment on the post. I encourage thoughtful discussion among my readers, and a respectful environment. My knowledge is nowhere near what the older generation has obtained over the years, but I have been unbelievably successful. Let’s have some fun.
